MOE: Classes ...back to Classes page.

Always wanted to try this? Been curious as to how to do that? Here is your chance! We encourage everyone to try something new and M.O.E. classes are a perfect venue for sparking new interests in outdoor activities. Many of our classes are free so all you need to do is show up and let our safety conscious, knowledgeable guides take care of the details.

Whether it’s learning how to properly hang a bear bag in the backcountry, an aerial photography class over the Bitterroot Mountains, or Survival Training in the backcountry, we’ll make sure the itinerary is appropriate for your level of skill and physical fitness. That way, you and your family, colleagues or newly acquired “trail buddies” can concentrate on learning new skills and soaking in the scenery.

Bear Safety and Awareness

Montana is grizzly country and we have the highest concentration of bears in the lower 48. This can be intimidating but with proper knowledge and practice, bears in the backcountry can be a life list treat to see (at a safe distance of course).

Our bear safety and awareness class covers everything you need to know or do to be safe in bear country. We will go over bear identification, how to deal with encounters as well as how to prevent unwanted encounters. We also go into great detail on how to properly hang bear bags and or place canisters. We hold free clinics at REI annually and can hold a private class upon request.
